Hospice is not a place. Hospice is a philosophy that focuses on providing comfort to those with illnesses who can no longer benefit from curative treatments.
The goal of Hospice care is not to cure in these final days but to make the most of the time that remains by controlling symptoms.
When considering hospice care, it is important to remember that it neither hastens nor postpones death; rather, it enhances the quality of the remainder of a person’s life by symptom management and the support given to the patient and the family by nurses, social workers, chaplains, nurse aids and volunteers. It is this team approach that allows us to take such great care of not only the patient but the family, as well.
